Eastbourne V Jersey U13
Eastbourne 3 - 4 Jersey U13
Match Report
As we approach the festive break in the Under 13s match calendar, it was a pivitol clash between Jersey and Eastbourne to determine who would be on Santa's 'nice list' and hold the title of Sussex U13’s Pool C champions and move into pool B for the 2nd half of the season.
Straight from kick off Jersey played some of the best rugby to date showing dominance in the scrums and Harlem Globe Trotter style passing in the backs. Leaving the coaching time assured that there Sunday's morning hooting and hollering in the rain may have finally paid off.
Zach scored the first try after breaking a number of strong tackles within the first ten minutes and although Eastbourne were the bigger side they couldn't keep up with the salvo of attacks coming from both the pack and the back line. Like a nimble terrier searching down rabbit hole Teddy darted from the back of a ruck to make it 2 nil. Eastbourne didn't give up the fight and scored twice before Heath made a solo effort from the half way line. The opposition managed to fight back to make it 3 - 3 at half time.
The second half had a strong resemblance to two mountain goats fighting for a small foot hold on a sheer cliff face in the Rocky Mountains. Both set of forwards put in a huge effort to gain control of the scrums and rucksack and both back line tackled well whilst trying to exploit gaps. But Jersey emerged tommvictorious with a try from Zach in the last 30 seconds. Sealing off a great contest enjoyed by all that watched
