Eastbourne V Jersey U14
Eastbourne 14 - 55 Jersey U14
Match Report
After a break of several weeks, Jersey U14s resumed their Sussex League campaign with an away trip to Eastbourne.
After an uncomfortable landing and long coach journey, the boys were keen to get stuck in on a blustery but dry day.
A delayed kick off allowed for a well needed wake up and warm up session before the referee called the captains in for the toss. Eastbourne won and chose to play with the wind fir the first half. Jersey started as they meant to carry on by setting up camp inside the Eastbourne 22. Several breaks from the forwards came up against a pretty strong defence before the Jersey cpt & no8 was able to muscle himself over for the opening try. Understandably, the conversion was missed but this did lead to a flurry of tries in a short period with the Jersey 12 helping himself to two well deserved tries. Eastbourne looked shell shocked after relentless pressure from Jersey who secured a 0-29 lead at half time.
Jersey started the second half as they finished the first with another try followed up by a breathtaking conversion.
Jersey then seemed to switch off for the next ten minutes or so which allowed Eastbourne to claim two converted scores. However, the last 10 minutes once again, allowed Jersey to show their dominance and score a further 3 tries to bring their tally to 9.
A great game, played in tough conditions and hosted superbly by Eastbourne.
Jersey now face Chichester on Dec 7th at home for a top of the table clash.
We would like to thank our main sponsor, Santander International for their continued support as well as Jersey Sport for travel grant funding.
