Hastings & Bexhill V Jersey U14 Boys

The Battle of Hastings!
JRFC U14s travelled to top of the league, Hastings & Bexhill for their fixture of the Sussex league season.
Both teams sized each other up during the warmup and it was evident, that whoever won the physical battle would have the advantage in near perfect conditions.  A series of strong carries, phase after phase from Jersey resulted in the first try with the away team no5 muscling his way over. A confident conversion from no10 put Jersey 0-7 up. An attritional battle then ensued, before the home team were able to take advantage of an overlap to score their first try. The conversion was unsuccessful. Both teams the fought tooth and nail with staggering defensive commitment before the Jersey no5 was able to power his was over the line. The resulting conversion saw Jersey go into half time 5-14.
The second half began well for Jersey with forwards and backs continuing to probe the Hastings defence line, before Jersey no5 completed his hat trick, being in the right place and finding some soft shoulders, before rounding off an excellent move from the backline
Hastings then set up camp in the Jersey half and despite some dogged defence, the no8 found a gap in the wall to score their 2nd try. This was converted to leave the scores 12-21 going in to the final 5 minutes. Jersey continued to put in some massive hits to keep Hastings out, before the Home team managed to get the ball wide and their winger went over in the corner. The attempted conversion, signalled the end of the Battle. Jersey can be commended for digging very very deep against very good opposition and their willingness to put their bodies on the line is a testament to the spirit of the squad.
