Worthing V Jersey U15 Boys

JRFC U15s took a while to wake up on their recent trip to Worthing, finding themselves 14 nil down inside 15 minutes. The forwards were competing well against a heavier pack and providing fair, if not great, ball for the back line. However, a little panic in chasing the scoreline led to some average handling and few dropped balls in positive positions that surrendered possession, that being said they stuck to the game play well and were rewarded with improved confidence and, at times, some very neat, fluent handling that was impressive to watch. Jersey were level by half time with tries from Eoin Mann and James Wiseman, both converted by Frankie Lawrence Prince.

The 2nd half began much as the first, the hosts dominating territory with strong forward surges only for their back to be repelled by some excellent defence from Jersey and, in particular, the effervescent Harrison Fitzpatrick. Worthing scored first making it 21 -14 before Jersey responded, again through some fine handling from right to left wing before Callum Coombs rounded the last man and sprinted the remaining 40 metres to dot down under the posts. 21 all and starting to get tense. Jersey did not handle the pressure to well following a series of line outs close to their try line and Worthing pounced first after a fumble in goal. 26 – 21. Worthing scored again before jersey rallied and turned the pressure back on Worthing scoring a try when Eoin Mann showed some neat footwork to dance through the home defence to round off a strong set of pick and goes from the pack. 31 – 26 final score.
