Conversions Pallant (3)
Jersey U16’s travelled to Lewes for their penultimate league game on a dry sunny Sunday.
Playing into the sun for the first half, Jersey received the ball and carried well into Lewes half, and after a period of sustained pressure with the forwards to the front, scored a try through Cole Gueno, however the conversion was missed.
Jersey received the ball from the kick off and in what would be a number of hard to understand decisions throughout the game for both teams, were penalised a number of times resulting in Lewes enjoying more of the front foot play. Jersey’s defence as it would all afternoon held well, however James Molteno was shown the yellow card for a suspected high tackle. Although both sides showed endeavour to try and score with a number of good runs and carries by Dexter Frigot, Arthur Mangematin, Oliver Cranmer, Ramon Francis and Jamie White for Jersey, the score was to remain the same being 0-5 to Jersey at half time.
Lewes came out for the second half like something had got them started, and put pressure on to Jersey which after a number of plays resulted in a penalty in front of Jersey’s posts which was duly converted, score 3-5.
There was to be no capitulation from Jersey and cutting out the frivolous play started to put both forward and backs moves together which took them out of their half and into Lewes half. There were a number of good carries, by Alex Powell, Ashton Planner, and Joshua Fudge to name but a few, which resulted in a penalty to Jersey inside the Lewes half. This was kicked into touch for an attacking line out, which Jersey duly won and again from a number of carries resulted in a try for Will Wilson near to the posts, converted by Louis Pallant.
Jersey pressed for another score however after a few errors it was Lewes who were in Jersey’s half and trying to move the ball wide, Lyle Pritchard then intercepted and did the right thing by sprinting just over half the length of the pitch to score under the posts for an easy conversion for Louis Pallant.
Again Lewes came at Jersey seeking to score a try but Jersey’s defence was determined to keep Lewes tryless, and were penalised harshly a number of times for being offside which resulted in Will Wilson getting a yellow card. Lewes now with a one man advantage came forward however the Jersey defence held firm with some excellent cover tackles from Ramon Francis and Tristan Yagambaram, and from one of these tackles a turnover resulted to Jersey and into the last minutes of the game Jersey broke out from their own half with both forwards and backs combining to allow Lyle Pritchard to score his second try of the game. Louis Pallant converted with the last kick of the game, final score 3-26 to Jersey.
